Actym Therapeutics is a cutting-edge biotech company focused on the discovery and development of novel immuno-oncology therapies, based in Berkeley, CA.  The ideal candidate for this position is a highly experienced bench scientist, looking to join a team of scientists focused on building a portfolio of therapies based on our STACT platform.  We are a small team, looking to make a huge impact in the field of immunotherapy to treat cancer.   The ideal candidate will have multiple accountabilities, including the design, production and screening of complex immunomodulatory gene payloads, using state of the art techniques in recombinant DNA technology, for tumor-specific delivery using Actym’s therapeutic platform. She/he will identify optimal therapies for clinical development. The candidate should enjoy (and ideally have experience) working in a dynamic, fast-paced and team-oriented startup environment. In addition, the ideal candidate must possess a strong drug-discovery focused, innovator’s mindset with a desire to bring therapeutic benefit to cancer patients.

These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Significant experience with state-of-the-art techniques in manipulation and cloning of DNA such as synthetic DNA assembly, overlapping PCR, Gibson cloning, etc. is required

  • Ability to work in a multiplexed molecular biology environment managing the in-silico design, synthesis, cloning and validation of multiple DNA constructs in parallel

  • Highly organized and capable of maintaining well curated stocks and libraries of DNA, as well as their corresponding DNA maps

  • Significant experience in the design of biomolecules for improved expression from mammalian cells

  • Expertise working with dedicated molecular biology software such as SnapGene

  • Significant expertise in cell-based assay development and screening is required

  • Reporter assays and cell lines

  • Transfection/infection methodologies

  • Viability/proliferation assays

  • Familiarity with multiplex cytokine assays (Luminex and/or CBA)

  • The candidate must be well organized and able to work on multiple concurrent laboratory projects

  • Biotechnology industry experience in a drug discovery environment is preferred

  • Significant experience using MS Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel), graphing software such as Prism

  • The candidate must be able to work on multiple concurrent projects in a team setting, keep a detailed notebook, and share findings in team meetings in a clear and concise manner

  • Isolation, growth, engineering, manipulation and phenotypic characterization of tumor, stromal, and primary immune cells (e.g., T cells, NK cells, dendritic or other antigen presenting cells)

  • Murine organ necropsy, dissociation / processing (GentleMACS)

  • Flow cytometry experience (NovoCyte preferred), preparation of samples, staining with appropriate markers for immuno-phenotyping (including tetramer staining); analysis of flow data using appropriate software (NovoCyte preferred)

  • Significant experience in the preparation of high-quality RNA, genomic DNA, and plasmid DNA

  • Molecular and cellular evaluations of samples from in vitro and ex vivo studies, using ELISA, qPCR, qRT-PCR, Western blotting, microscopy and other techniques. Knowledge of BioRad Prime PCR software
